IUB Physical Sciences organize the 13th undergraduate math olympiad regional round

The National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad is an annual undergraduate level competition which is organized jointly by the Bangladesh Mathematical Society and A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation. All undergraduate students of both public and private universities are eligible to participate in this contest. 

 The competition is organized for students studying in their first, second, third or fourth year of university, with the maximum age of participants being 23 years (exceptions apply in special cases). The problems are generally from the fields of Algebra, Analysis (Real and Complex), Analytic Geometry and Combinatorics, and the working language is English.

This competition takes place in two phases. The first phase consists of 8 regional contests. The first ten of the contestants of these 8 regions compete in the final round. In this regard, IUB has hosted this contest twice: the final event of 5th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad in 2013 and the regional contest of 10th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad (Dhaka North) in 2018 were held at IUB premises. 

We are honored to declare that the department of Physical Sciences of Independent University, Bangladesh had hosted the 13th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad, 2022, for Dhaka North region last Friday (25th November 2022). Fourteen universities, including both public and private institutions from Dhaka North region, had participated in this contest with their selected students. Out of 124 registered students 94 had participated. Imtiaz Tanweer Rahim, from IUT secured 1st prize, Nion Ibne Nazrul from BRAC university secured 2nd position and Rafid Khalid Nahi from BRAC university secured 3rd position. Sheikh Mahabubuzzaman stood 4th while three participants Gobinda Kirtonia from DUET, Md. Rakib from Jahangir Nagar University and Zarin Tasneem Nuzhat from East West University secured 5th position jointly. Hasnat Mohammad Nayeem from IUT stood 8th, Arman Ferdous from BRAC university stood 9th and Maimoona Hossain from MIST stood 10th in this competition. 

The event had been inaugurated by the Dean of the School of Engineering Technology and Sciences, Dr. Mahady Hassan and the Head of the Department of Physical Sciences, Dr. Mohammad Mostofa Kamal. The Secretary of the Bangladesh Mathematical Society, Professor Md. Babul Hasan had also graced the occasion. The president of the Bangladesh Mathematical Society, Professor Md. Shahid Uddin handed over the certificate and crest to the winners. The whole program ended with great fanfare and memorable interactions between all the participants and the faculty members.
